SAM Organization for Rights and Liberties conducted an awareness session in Al-Mudhaffar District, Taiz Governorate, under the slogan “For Justice and Preventing the Repetition of Violations”. The session focused on justice from the perspective of survivors, understanding rights, and pathways to recovery, as part of efforts to strengthen collective awareness among victims about the importance of transitional justice as a comprehensive approach to addressing human rights violations and ensuring they are not repeated.

The session was implemented in partnership with the Abductees’ Mothers Association, within the Supporting Peace through Accountability, Reconciliation, and Knowledge Exchange (SPARK) project, funded by the DT Institute. It included participation from a number of victims and survivors who experienced serious violations, including forced displacement, arbitrary detention, and enforced disappearance.

The session addressed concepts of transitional justice from the perspective of displaced persons and victims, emphasizing their practical application in claiming rights, referral mechanisms to psychological and legal support services, and raising awareness about survivors’ rights. It also highlighted the importance of documenting violations as a critical step toward accountability and redress.

The session featured moving testimonies from victims, reflecting the magnitude of suffering and underlining the urgent need for justice and reparations. It concluded with a set of recommendations aimed at strengthening survivors’ rights and advocating for their causes at both community and institutional levels.
